The national economy has been fast increasing in Anhui. The total output value of the whole province in 2004 increased by 12.5% and reached 481.27 billion YUAN, scoring a two-digit increase for the first time since 1998, which enables Anhui to win the 14th place in the whole nation. The gross product per capita amounted to 7768 Yuan (i.e. 939 US dollars), an increase of 159 US dollars over the previous year.

The added value of the primary industry was 93.24 billion Yuan, representing 8.5% increase. The added value of the secondary industry was 216.98 billion Yuan, representing 13.8% increase, and the added value of the tertiary industry 171.05 billion Yuan, 13% increase. The proportion between them was 19.4 : 45.1 : 35.5.

The financial strength was obviously enhanced. The financial revenue of the whole province was 52 billion Yuan, increasing by 26%. The increase topped 10 billion Yuan in 2004. The local government revenue reached 27.44 billion Yuan, scoring an increase of 24.3%, which was the best level since 1998.

There was a good harvest in cereals production. The total yield of cereals was 27.43 million tons, an increase of more than 5 million tons in the year, a recovering increase after the disaster. 2004 is the 4th year of high production of cereals in the history.

The key enterprises have been developing speedily. The sales revenues of Ma'anshan Steel Group and Electric Power of Anhui Province have exceeded 20 billion Yuan. And the sales revenues of Anhui Conch Group, Jianghuai Automobile Co. Ltd, Tongling Nonferrous Metals (Group) Inc., Anqing Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, Anhui Commerce Corporation, and Anhui Tobacco Transaction Corporation have exceeded 10 billion Yuan. The profits of the industrial enterprises over a certain scale reached 17.53 billion Yuan. And the composite index number of industrial economic benefits was 145.4, which reached the best level in the past years.

Opening-up has been extended.

Generally speaking, all the cities have been developing fast.

The employment surpassed the expected goal. The year of 2004 saw 200,000 reemployed people in addition to an increase of 420,000 employed people both in cities and towns. The registered rate of unemployment both in cities and towns was controlled to less than 4.2%.

People's life has been improving. The total amount of retail sales of the social consumable in the whole province was 150.31 billion Yuan, up 12.9%. The average disposable income of residents in cities and towns was 7511.4 Yuan, up 10.8%. And the average net income of peasants was 2499.3Yuan, up 17.5%, which is the best in the recent 8 years.

The labor productivity of the whole society was 13462 Yuan per person.
