Ministry of Supervision

With the founding of the People's Republic of China in October 1949, the People's Supervisory Commission was set up under the Central Government. In September 1954, the Commission was renamed as the Ministry of Supervision. In April 1959, the Ministry was canceled due to restructuring of the state administration system and was reestablished in July 1987 with the approval of the Standing Committee of the Sixth National People's Congress. Local governments at all levels successively created the supervisory bodies soon afterwards. On May 9, 1997, the Law of the People's Republic of China on Administrative Supervision was promulgated and entered into force and the Ministry performs its duties according to this law.
