Lectures on the deeds of Wang Leyi, a dedicated village leader in east China's Shandong province, were given Friday in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Chinese Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with Wang and the lecturing team before the lectures.

Wang, Party Branch secretary of a village in Shouguang City, Shandong Province in east China, is credited with leading the whole village onto a path of common prosperity.

He invented a new vegetable growing technique and introduced it to the whole village.

"Comrade Wang Leyi is a prominent example of grass-roots Party cadres in the countryside in the new historical period," acknowledged Hui.

He called on all CPC officials, especially those in the countryside, to learn from Wang and become role models in the ongoing drive of "building a socialist new countryside."
