Anti-secession Law of "important role, far-reaching impact": NPC leader
Chinese top lawmaker Wu Bangguo said in Beijing Thursday that the Anti-secession Law passed by the national legislature a year ago "has played an important role and exerted far-reaching impact" in checking "Taiwan independence" activities.
The law, adopted at the 3rd session of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) on March 14 of 2005, "demonstrates our utmost sincerity for peaceful reunification and our resolute opposition to 'Taiwan independence'," Wu, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, said in his work report to the ongoing 4th NPC session.
China promises more democracy in legislation
Top Chinese lawmaker Wu Bangguo said in Beijing Thursday that the Standing Committee of the Tenth National People's Congress (NPC) will further promote democracy in its legislation by soliciting more public opinions.
"We will continue to publicize law drafts to collect suggestions and hold more public hearings on bills which the public care about or dispute about the most," said Wu, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, in his annual report on the legislature's work to nearly 3,000 NPC deputies.
China's legislature focuses supervision on workers' safety, environment
The Chinese legislature, the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, has saved many lives by its law enforcement inspection activities that have led to closure of many deadly mines and polluting plants.
NPC's supervision to target rural development, innovation
This year China's top legislature will give priority to supervision over rural development and sci-tech innovation, China's top lawmaker said in Beijing Thursday.
Authorized by the Constitution to supervise law-enforcement and the operation of governmental and judicial organs, the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee will work in line with the highest priority of the central government, said Wu, chairman of the committee, in his annual work report.
Environmental Protection
Resources saving and environmental protection are China's basic national policy and concerned with the overall situation of economic and social development, Wu said.
Letters of Complaint
Wu said last year, the top legislature heard and discussed ten reports made by the relevant departments of the State Council, the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate for the promotion of the rule of law, Wu said.
