The national agricultural R&D in the Tenth Five-year Plan period integrated and innovated a batch of technical systems for upgrading the comprehensive capacity for grain production and provided important technical support for ensuring the China's grain safety.

The research focused on Northeast China Plain, North China Plain, middle and lower reaches of the Changjiang River and loess plateau and centered round such staple food crops as rice, wheat, maize and soybean. 1.5 hundred million mu of core area, demonstration area and radiation area was established in 12 grain producing provinces. An accumulative total of over 150 high-quality and high-yield technologies took shape. 62 sets of high-yield, high-quality and high-efficiency technical systems with regional features were built up. All these greatly upgraded China's comprehensive capacity for grain production.
