Liu Yandong, Vice Chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), called for further promotion of patriotism, harmony and creativity to build a more prosperous Macao on Friday.

Liu made the remarks while meeting with some 280 representatives from all walks of the social life of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR), saying that Macao's development has been and will be fully supported by the central government.

The official extended her solicitude to the representatives, eulogizing them for their dedication to the development of Macao and the Chinese mainland.

She said the central government has been strictly implementing the principles of "One country, Two systems," "Macao people governs Macao" and high autonomy since the region returned to the motherland in 1999.

The central government will spare no effort to support Chief Executive of the MSAR Edmund Ho Hau Wah and his administration andto help the region overcome all difficulties, said the official.

She said the central government is to back up the region's efforts to boost its tourism industry and to usher the economy into a multi-dimensional stage.

Liu expressed her wish that the representatives would take the lead in studying, promoting and implementing the principle of "One Country, Two systems" and the Macao Basic Law, in a bid to protect the benefits of the country and the region.

She urged for their efforts to support the MSAR government to improve the legal and investment environment and to step up the economic cooperation with the mainland and the rest of the world.

The official toured the region's Legislative Assembly house later on the day.

She arrived here Wednesday to attend the Overseas Chinese World Conference for Reunification of China which was launched on Thursday.

Her Macao tour will be wrapped up on Sunday.
