Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao sent congratulatory messages to Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov on Monday on his re-election as Turkmenistan's president.

In his message, Hu said Turkmenistan has remained stable during Berdymukhamedov's administration and its economy has continued to develop. The Turkmen people have been living and working in peace and contentment while its international status has continuously risen, he said.

Hu said he believes the Turkmen people, under the leadership of Berdymukhamedov, would further take new steps on their path of state building.

Since China and Turkmenistan established diplomatic relations 20 years ago, their friendly cooperative relations have undergone significant development, he said.

Between the two countries, there are a high degree of mutual trust in politics, an ever-expanding cooperation in the fields of trade, economy and energy, increasingly active cultural exchanges, and good coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs, he said.

Hu said China respects the path of development chosen by the Turkmen people and supports the country's efforts in safeguarding its national independence, sovereignty and safety, and in promoting economic and social development.

China values its traditional relationship with Turkmenistan and attaches importance to their long-term and stable friendly cooperative partnership, the Chinese president said. He said China is willing to work with Turkmenistan to promote their partnership to a new height on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

Wen, in his message, spoke highly of the development of China-Turkmenistan ties. He said the two countries are friendly neighbors and important cooperative partners. He said China is willing to work with Turkmenistan to enhance their traditional friendship and deepen their mutually beneficial cooperation, in the interests of the two peoples.
