Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held talks in Beijing Thursday with visiting Iranian chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani.

They had an exchange of views mainly on Iran's nuclear issue and other related issues concerning the growth of bilateral relations.

Larijani, also secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, arrived in Beijing Thursday morning from Tehran for a single day visit.

Larijani is expected to hold a press conference at the Iranian embassy here after another meeting with Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan Thursday afternoon. He is scheduled to leave the Chinese capital in the evening, according to sources in the embassy.

Iran is facing a referral to the United Nations Security Council for possible sanctions against it over the worry of Western nations that the country may seek to build an atomic bomb.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is due to convenean emergency session of its board of governors on Feb. 2-3 to voteon the referral at the request of the European Union (EU), after Iran resumed its research on uranium enrichment -- the most sensitive part of the nuclear fuel cycle -- earlier this month.
