Senior Chinese official: China, Peru to see closer judicial co-op

China-Peru practical cooperation on judicial reform, court administration and judge's training will be advanced because of closer bilateral exchanges, a senior Chinese official said in Beijing on Wednesday.

Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting with a delegation of the Supreme Court of Peru, which was led by Francisco Tabara, president of the court.

The China-Peru relationship has been upgraded to a strategic partnership during Chinese President Hu Jintao's recent visit to Peru. And we are convinced the visit of a delegation of Peruvian Supreme Court will contribute to bilateral relations and further promote China-Peru practical cooperation on judicial reform, court administration and judge's training, Zhou said.

Peru will step up cooperation and exchanges with China over judicial work, and draw on China's successful experience in improving the legal system and promoting the reform of the judicial system, Tabara said.

Briefing on the improvement of the Chinese legal system, Zhou said China will make consistent efforts to reform and improve the judicial system, with meeting people's need and maintaining social harmony and stability as objectives, with safeguarding fairness and justice in the whole society as the core.

"China is moving towards a more impartial, efficient, democratic, transparent and authoritative socialist judicial system with Chinese characteristics," Zhou said.

Tabara expressed hope that the two states will promote cooperation on economy, society, science and technology in addition to the judicial fields. so as to realize mutual development.

China established diplomatic relationship with Peru in 1971. In2007,the two-way trade volume was valued at 6 billion US dollars, up 53.45 percent over the previous year.
