China said Tuesday it hoped all parties would make concerted efforts to push for dialogue and negotiation on the Iran nuclear issue by "adopting more constructive measures".
Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi made the remarks after hour-long talks with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband.
Yang told the press after the talks that China still hoped "all other relevant parties would, together with us, to adopt more constructive measures so as to avoid further deterioration of the situation, and push for the gradual progress in the track of dialogue and negotiations."
China, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, is also a key member of the six-nation mechanism on Iran's nuclear issue, which also includes the United States, Russia, Britain, France and Germany.
China would maintain closer contacts with the parties and continue its efforts to push for a diplomatic resolution to the issue, Yang said.
Miliband said the United Kingdom was "committed to the multilateral system" with regard to the Iran nuclear issue.
Also on the agenda of Yang and Miliband was progress of the China-Britain strategic dialogue.
On Tuesday evening, Miliband and Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo will hold the strategic dialogue.
"The dialogue shows the high importance the two countries attach to their strategic partnership. Both countries realize they should have in-depth and broad discussions on major issues concerning peace, security and development of the region and the world as a whole," Yang said.
Miliband said the UK would "welcome the inauguration of the strategic dialogue", which was expected to "take our political cooperation to a new level."
