A leader from the Communist Party of China(CPC) Wednesday called on China and Hungary to cement cooperation and strengthen relations between China and the European Union (EU).
Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting with Ildiko Lendvai, president of the Hungarian Socialist Party.
Li said that since the two countries lifted their relationship to a friendly and cooperative partnership in 2004, political trust and economic cooperation, as well as the coordination in international and regional affairs, had been enhanced.
"Hungary is China's good friend and partner in the European Union, and cementing China-Hungary ties is in the interests of both countries and also conducive to China-EU cooperation," he said.
Li also expressed appreciation for Hungary's adherence to the one-China policy.
Ildiko Lendvai said following the socialist road with Chinese characteristics had ensured China's rapid growth. She advocated Hungary and the EU expand reciprocal cooperation with China.
The Hungarian delegation is visiting China at the invitation of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.
